Memory Teas - Remembering the Dan Ryan Displaced 7/11 and 7/18
July 6, 2026
The BMRC is looking for Chicagoans who have a living memory of the "Dan Ryan Displaced," those people whose lives were upended in the late 1950s to build the expressway.
The building of the Dan Ryan Expressway in Chicago claimed tens of thousands of homes and businesses by way of eminent domain. African American communities were especially effected.
Join Candace Hunter, a prominent Chicago artist as she holds "memory teas" at the BMRC The Ways We Remember exhibition space at 320 E. 43rd Street.
Memory Teas are opportunities for you, your parent, granduncle or friend to speak with Candace about the experience and memories of that time.
Sessions will be held on :
Saturday, July 11th 2PM - 4PM
and
Saturday, July 18th, 2PM - 4PM
Please let us know to expect you by completing this form. (So that we will have enough tea!)
Oral histories will be recorded if consent is given.
