Wikipedia Edit-a-thon: Black Chicago History

February 9, 2026

Have you ever searched for a Chicago hero and been shocked to see they didn’t have a Wikipedia page? Or was their entry incomplete and inaccurate? Now is your chance to change that!

Join us Thursday February 26, 2026 for a Wikipedia Edit-a-thon dedicated to Black Chicago history: the people, places, culture, and movements that have shaped this city into the vibrant Black Metropolis we know it to be. Co-hosted by the Center for Digital Scholarship (CDS) and the Black Metropolis Research Consortium (BMRC), all are welcome to attend regardless of experience level. Together, we’ll help tell a fuller, more accurate story of Chicago by improving one of the world’s most used education resources. During this Edit-a-thon, new and experienced editors alike will work to:

  • Expand and improve existing entries for notable Black Chicagoans and institutions
  • Increase citations and sources
  • Correct inaccurate and outdated information
  • Edit for deeper clarity and understanding

No experience? No problem. We’ll provide guidance, resources, and support so you can confidently contribute. Please create a Wikipedia account ahead of time if you don’t already have one.
