Chicago Repertory Group Collection of Scripts and Scrapbooks
The Chicago Repertory Group Collection, presented to the University Library in June, 1958, by Gertrude Gunter Soltker, an original member of the group, consists of typescripts, carbons, and mimeograph copies of 267 plays, songs, and sketches used by the group, as well as six scrapbooks containing newspaper clippings, programs, and publicity for the group.
Pitcher, W. Alvin. Papers
W. Alvin Pitcher (1913-1996), professor, minister, community and social justice activist. The Pitcher Papers include manuscripts, correspondence, press clippings, and extensive records from numerous political and civic organizations. The papers document Pitcher's scholarly career at Denison University and the University of Chicago, his ministerial work, and his participation in the civil rights movement and in various community organizations.
Lincoln Collection. Currier & Ives Lithographs
This collection of lithographs from the Currier & Ives Printmaking Company forms a portion of the William E. Barton Collection of Lincolniana. Images located here are related to Abraham Lincoln, the Civil War and issues in politics pertaining to this time and the antebellum north in the second half of the nineteenth century through caricatures of migrant African Americans.
Stiernberg, Ed. Collection
The Ed Stiernberg Collection contains photographs depicting Joe Segal at the Roosevelt record listening club. There is a photograph of Muggsy Spanier, Pee Wee Russell, and Miff Mole from the October 16, 1948 Dave Garroway concert at the Chicago Opera House, as well as photocopies of the concert reviews.
Reid, Margaret G. Papers
Margaret Gilpin Reid (1896-1991) was a Professor of Home Economics and Economics at the University of Chicago between 1951 and 1961. Reid was one of the first economists to theorize the economic contributions of non-market activities such as housework. Uncle Tom's Cabin: or, Life Among the Lowly was an anti-slavery novel that profoundly affected American attitudes towards African Americans and slavery in the United States. The collection contains 23 documents, most of which are of British origin and describe or announce theatrical presentations of the tale.
