His office was located initially in the "33rd St. apartments" (apparently the Armour Flats building) before moving to the former Arcade building at 10 W. 35th St. (35th and State Sts.) Dempsey J. Travis (1920-2009) was an entrepreneur and civil rights activist whose real estate and mortgage businesses helped shape African American communities throughout Chicago during the mid-20th Century. Travis was also a prominent author who wrote about African American history, politics, and music. The papers include writing drafts, transcripts of interviews, and research.
Norshore Music Collection
The Norshore music collection includes music by Evanston, Illinois musicians who recorded music from 1947-2009. The music collection consists of commercially successful artists, such as Patti Drew, as well as local up and coming artists, such a MC Longshot (a.k.a. Chad Helsup). The music includes a variety of genres.
