Scope and Content
Files of The Chicago Initiative (TCI), a collaborative effort of The Chicago Community Trust, The Human Relations Foundation, and the United Way of Chicago to ease racial and economic tensions in Chicago by developing an agenda for youth and young adults around both educational and employment opportunities. Funded by the above agencies and other foundations, TCI task forces screened grant applications from community groups in the areas of arts and culture, community service and education, gang intervention, jobs/job training, sports and recreation, and youth development, among others, and forwarded proposals for funding to the TCI Distribution Committee. The files mainly were compiled by the above-mentioned tasks forces; also present are the files of Marta White, TCI Director from 1992 until its termination on August 31, 1995.
