Scope and Content

Papers of Judge Julius J. Hoffman, primarily trial hearing documents related to the Chicago Seven case (U. S. v. David T. Dellinger, et al., 1969-1970). Judge Hoffman wrote marginalia on some of the Dellinger case documents, making comments and rulings on petitions. Also present are lists of the attorneys representing the Chicago Seven; a copy of Bobby Seale's speech delivered in Lincoln Park (1968 Aug. 27), transcripts of other speeches from the demonstration outside the Democratic National Convention, copies of various rulings made by Judge Hoffman on the Dellinger case, and transcripts of trail testimony.

Also present is a copy of Judge Hoffman's ruling on the South Holland (Cook County District 151) school desegregation case (1968), a copy of U. S. v. William Daddano et al. (1968); letters from Charles Joseph Pacholsky attacking the judge's actions in Pacholsky v. Pate, Warden; a guest book from the dinner honoring Hoffman upon his appointment as a U. S. District Judge in 1953; a certificate awarded to Hoffman from the Northwestern University Alumni Association; and a resolution passed in honor of Hoffman's memory by the Standard Club on Chicago (1983).
