Historical note

Olivet Baptist was known as the world's largest Protestant congregation during the pastorates of Drs. L.K. Williams (1916-1940 )and J.H. Jackson (1941-1990), who also served as presidents of the National Baptist Convention, U.S.A. (NBC), which was known as the world's largest organization of African Americans. Jackson was an outspoken conservative leader during the civil rights movement of the 1960s and while president of NBC (1953-1982).

Dr. J.H. Jackson 8th Anniversary Dinner 1948 (8); various aspects of J.H. Jackson's career at Olivet and at the National Baptist Convention (68); Rev. J.H. Jackson in Egypt (7); various National Baptist Convention meetings chaired by Rev. Drs. L.K. Williams or Jackson (17); Rev. and Mrs. Jackson's European trip 1961 (18); J.H.
