Scope and Content

Topical files, operating files, financial records, newsclippings, membership cards, and other records of the South Shore Commission, a community organization serving the Far South Side of Chicago. During a period of racial change in the neighborhood, the Commission attempted to manage integration to promote racial balance and prevent a decline in housing values. Affiliated organizations include Bryn Mawr East Area Council; Bryn Mawr West Area Council; Central South Shore, Jackson Park Highlands Jeffery Yates Neighbors; O'Keeffe Area Council; Parkside Area C.A.P.S.; South End West Area Council; United Community Council.
