Scope and Contents note
The Evanston Public School Integration records date between 1964 and 1974. The bulk of the records consist of publications, committee reports, institutes, surveys, reports, and correspondence. The Citizen Advisory Committee on Integration (CACI) dates between 1964 and 1974 and makes up the first part of the collection. This section includes correspondence between the Board of Education for District 65 and the Citizen Advisory Committee regarding plans for integration, a survey on parent’s feelings about sending their children to different schools, statistics for each school, minutes of meetings, and a plan for redistricting. The other records date between 1964 and 1974 and include publications, correspondence, questionnaires, and the summer institute for integration. The League of Women Voters, Christian Science Monitor, and Community Opinion Journal sponsored the publications. Some of the correspondence includes Dr. Oscar Chute’s correspondence with District 65 and the Northwest Evanston Homeowner’s Association. The PTA questionnaire records include results from Orrington, Lincoln, and Miller schools. The reports include partial reports from Lincolnwood School and Oscar Chute. The summer institute for integration includes reports, in-service information, and press releases.
