Biographical/Historical note

Like the New York-based National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, The Illinois Gay and Lesbian Task Force (originally the Illinois Gay Rights Task Force) was formed to support the rights of gays and lesbians in Illinois by monitoring legislative bills (including the long-running campaign to pass an anti-discrimination bill that would make sexual orientation a protected class in Illinois) and providing sensitivity training to law enforcement officers and other officials.

Scope and Contents note

The collection includes organizational files, bylaws, flyers and other printed ephemera, newsclippings, reports, subject files on state and municipal gay politics, report cards for many Illinois elected officials, and files on specific state bills. There are also records from the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force.

Processing Information note

This collection was surveyed as part of the Black Metropolis Research Consortium's Survey Initiative on 2011 November 22 by Andrew Steadham.
