Historical note
“Go On Girl!,” an African American book club, was the vision of three girlfriends, Monique Greenwood, Lynda Johnson and Tracy Mitchell-Brown, in 1991 and has developed into a national book club with over 25 chapters. Its mission is to expand the African American reading experience, concentrating on authors from the African diaspora. In 1995, the Club became a legally incorporated non-profit organization, and it currently boasts more than 300 members in cities across the country. Our members range in age from twenty-something to sixty-plus, and they have varied professional backgrounds and personal interests.
