Biographical note
Irma Cayton Wertz, a graduate of Fisk University, married Chicago sociologist Horace Cayton and moved to Chicago in the late 1930s. During World War II, she served as an early African American WAC officer.
Scope and Contents note
Her papers include correspondence, news clippings, official documents and photographs on her experience in the military during World War II. Also included are some materials on her work at Chicago’s Parkway Community House.
