Scope and Contents note

The collection documents alumni life and business. A large part of the collection pertains to the "News and Views" alumni publication. Drafts of press releases and articles as well as a large number of photographs. The collection also includes correspondence of "News and Views" publication and the President's Office. A third aspect of the collection was a small but important collection on Urban Renewal and Development in the Bronzeville neighborhood. The collection details the expansion of IIT after the 1940 merger of Armour Institute of Technology and Lewis Institute. The dates spanning urban renewal range from 1941-1957. Relevant folders in this collection include: "Building Developments at IIT and neighboring areas"; "translating an urban area into a University Campus"; "Slum clearance and redevelopment program"; "IIT city plan-1941"; "Press Release Raymond J. Spaeth"; "Area and Campus Development History." One more important folder that we came across while surveying this collection is the "Princeton University Roger Straus Council on Human Relations Study on non-caucasian alumni." in 1965 IIT participated in a Princeton study that was interested in following up with the status of non-caucasian alumni at different colleges and universities. IIT provided the study a list of IIT alumni from 1930-1965.
