Biographical note

In March of 1994, Bari-Ellen Roberts became the lead plaintiff in the largest class action discrimination suit in history. “I’ve never been afraid to compete with white people. I’ve been doing it since I was a child.” These are the challenging words that introduce Bari-Ellen Roberts to the reader of her book, Roberts vs. Texaco.

Scope and Contents note

The Bari-Ellen Roberts Papers contain personal materials not directly related to the suit, general background materials in support of the suit and materials reflecting the suit outcome. They also include materials related to media coverage of the trial, to the Texaco Corporation, the development of the book, Roberts vs. Texaco, as well as discrimination law suits involving similar corporations.
