Biographical/Historical note
Community college education has existed in Chicago since 1911, when Crane Technical High School opened its doors to 28 adults seeking higher education, which in turn led to the establishment of Crane Junior College. Crane eventually became part of the City Colleges of Chicago (CCC). It was renamed Malcolm X College in honor of the civil rights leader in 1969. From its modest beginning, the City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) has grown to a system of seven individually accredited colleges, three learning centers, and three technical institutes.
Scope and Contents note
The Malcolm X College Archives includes newspapers, film reels, video tapes, audio tapes, posters, photographs, school yearbooks, and administration and governance records of Malcolm X College.
