- Sigma Pi Phi is a post-collegiate African-American fraternity that was founded in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1904. It was the first African-American Greek-lettered organization formed in the United States. The Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity, Delta Alpha Boulé chapter was founded in Evanston, Illinois in January of 1990 to promote and continue the fraternal philosophy on a local level. This chapter encompassed members throughout the geographical Northern Suburbs of Chicago.
Historical note
Sigma Pi Phi is a post-collegiate African-American fraternity that was founded in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1904. It was the first African-American Greek-lettered organization formed in the United States. Its purpose and mission was to provide a forum for professional African-American males to gather, discuss, and promote the social, spiritual, cultural aspects of African-American society. The Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity, Delta Alpha Boulé chapter was founded in Evanston, Illinois in January of 1990 to promote and continue the fraternal philosophy on a local level. This chapter encompassed members throughout the geographical Northern Suburbs of Chicago.
Scope and Contents note
The Sigma Pi Phi, Delta Alpha Boulé records are organized into three series: “Organizational,” “Photographs,” and “Boulé Journal.” The collection consists of minutes from Boulé meetings, correspondence, committee reports, membership information, photographs, and copies of the Boulé Journal from 1993 to 2011.
