The Black Metropolis Research Consortium invites you to presentations by Archie Motley Archival Interns on the work they have done in member collections this summer.
Tukesha Hill, a 2025 graduate of Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) who has been interning at the Chicago History Museum, will present on her work with the archival materials of Zebina Eastman, in a talk entitled “Echoes of Freedom: Zebina Eastman’s Archive and the Voices of Liberation." Tukesha will discuss how the collection highlights the grassroots organizing and anti-slavery advocacy that shaped Chicago and national movements and how archives can focus on making this history more accessible to African American communities and people outside of academia.
Jahiem Brown, a rising sophomore at Depaul University who has been interning at Northwestern University, working with the Archivist of the Black experience there to create a digital exhibition using materials found in the Katherine Flowers Papers, a collection of documents that belonged to and referenced dancer/choreographer Katherine Flowers. Jahiem will discuss his work creating the exhibition and his overall experience learning about the work of archives and archivists.
