The Black Metropolis Research Consortium (BMRC) invites you to our 2025 Annual Meeting on Tuesday, October 14th from 2pm to 4pm, graciously hosted by our member, the Newberry Library.

Come learn about the work we have done in the last year to support and advance the archives of Black culture and history in Chicago.

We will also be joined by our special guests, Dr. Leslie Harris, a Professor in History at Northwestern University whose scholarship has focused on complicating the ideas we all hold about the history of African Americans in the United States, and a co-editor of the recent book, Black Urban History at the Crossroads: Race and Place in the American City, and Dr. Davarian Baldwin, an urbanist, historian, cultural critic and Professor of American Studies at Trinity College who contributed to the book.

Harris and Baldwin will discuss the new publication and how looking at three centuries of Black urban experiences in American can help us to understand the present moment.

Free and Open to the Public
