Ada Onyewuenyi - presentation

The Black Metropolis Research Consortium (BMRC) invites you to join us on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM CST for a virtual presentation in the 2025 Fellows Fall Speaker Series.

Dr. Adaurennaya “Ada” Onyewuenyi, Associate Professor of Psychology and affiliate faculty in the African American Studies Department at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ), will share the results of her summer research as a BMRC Research Fellow in her talk, "Exploring the Educational Journeys of African Immigrant Youth in the Chicago Metropolis: 1980 – Present." A scholar of education, psychology, and human development, Dr. Onyewuenyi’s research examines how Black youth draw on racial and cultural identities to thrive amid systemic racism. Her current work explores how culture and peer relationships shape conflict resolution, reconciliation, and belonging among diverse youth.
