Curious about working with archives but not sure where to start?

Navigating Institutional Archives 101 is a beginner-friendly webinar for artists, researchers, and anyone interested in exploring Chicago’s rich archival landscape. This session is designed to make archives feel less intimidating and more accessible, while spotlighting the incredible work happening inside local institutions.

Hosted by BMRC Visual Arts Researcher Rashieda Witter, you’ll hear directly from archivists at:

  • The Vivian G. Harsh Research Collection (Nix Mendy)
  • The Art Institute of Chicago (JT de la Torre)
  • Northwestern University Archives and Special Collections (Charla Wilson)

Each archivist will walk us through how to find collections online, how to request materials, what to expect when visiting in person, and more.

Whether this is your first archive visit or you’re looking to deepen your research practice, this session is for you.
