From the work they write to the protagonists they create, Black women: the true superheroes of the comic book genre. Join Black future feminist and pop culture scholar Dr. Grace D. Gipson and Chicago cartoonist Bianca Xunise for a conversation on race, gender, and the past and future of comic books. Dr. Grace Cipson is a 2020-2021 BMRC Fellow.

The Black Metropolis Research Consortium joins the Chicago Humanities Festival, the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) & the Terra Foundation for American Art in sponsoring this program. Streaming on May 20!
