This October, Genealogist Tony Burroughs will be facilitating a Genealogy Workshop with the BMRC. Take a look at our Workshops Page for more information and to register. This event will continue a workshop series funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The workshop topics have been determined through the BMRC’s Community Needs and Assets Assessment and our Community Discussions, which happened from February to April of 2021. The CNAA surveyed Black Chicagoans about their legacy management needs and access to resources. Following this survey, the BMRC hosted two Community Discussions to present the CNAA results and hear more from community members about which topics they would like to see covered in archival workshops. Our Introduction to Archiving Workshop: Part One covered appraisals, processing, describing, preservation, and access, while Part Two discussed personal digital archiving and digitization. You can find more information about these two events on our Workshops page, including recordings of the sessions. Stay tuned for more info about future events, including a panel of archivists to discuss donations and other transfer agreements with repositories!
