This September, BMRC Community Engagement Archivist T Calvin will be hosting Part Two of our virtual Introduction to Archiving Workshop Series. Take a look at our Workshops Page for more information and to register. This event will continue a workshop series funded by the Mellon Foundation. The workshop topics have been determined through the BMRC’s Community Needs and Assets Assessment and our Community Discussions, which happened from February to April of 2021. The CNAA surveyed Black Chicagoans about their legacy management needs and access to resources. Following this survey, the BMRC hosted two Community Discussions to present the CNAA results and hear more from community members about which topics they would like to see covered in archival workshops. This workshop is the second of five resulting from the CNAA and these Community Discussions, covering a wide range of topics related to archiving and legacy management. Part One covered appraisals, processing, describing, preservation, and access.

Stay tuned for more info about future workshops, including an African-American genealogy workshop and a panel of archivists to discuss donations and other transfer agreements with repositories!
