Scope and Content
Correspondence, financial and membership data, pamphlets, speeches, and other administrative records of the Illinois State Federation of Labor, which Olander served as secretary-treasurer. Includes minutes of meetings, reports, statistical data, and some correspondence regarding the Illinois Emergency Relief Commission, 1932-1955, and other relief and welfare organizations and activities in Chicago and Illinois during the 1930s; and correspondence, financial records, and printed matter (1898-1931, chiefly 1912-1923) from the International Seamen's Union of America (of which Olander was secretary-treasurer, 1924-1936); and minutes of meetings and financial data from its various member locals. Subjects include trade union matters, notable political activities such as lobbying and endorsement of candidates for public office, internal union matters such as organization, growth, and schisms, and topics of interest, such as education, communism, racketeering, and race relations. Correspondents includes John H. Walker, president of the Illinois State Federation of Labor.
