The BMRC Curated Topics List

– a work-in-progress –

The BMRC's Curated Topics List is a subject list with a focus, designed to help remedy the pervasive invisibility of primary source material documenting Black history and culture. We're inviting people who engage with collections on Black experiences to tell us about the topics that are most important in their work, that may resonate most deeply with users of all kinds and at different levels of experience.

Each topic will include a note about its significance to Black studies, with a relevant image, and all collections information in the BMRC Archives Portal will eventually be tagged with one or more curated topics. The set of about 100 or so topics will comprise a special controlled vocabulary that concisely encapsulates the subject domain as a dynamic body of knowledge–just like having a subject matter expert at your elbow!
