Scope and Contents note

The Records of the African American History collection dates from 1869 to 1983 and fills two archival boxes. The collection includes a program from 1869 for Blind Tom Concerts in Evanston. The collection also includes a Church and Business Directory from 1947. The rest of the collection includes transcripts of interviews with African American citizens in Evanston. The interviews were conducted in May 1974 and May 1983. The subjects discussed ranged from the community of Evanston and the opportunities for African Americans here and personal experiences and recollections.

The transcripts are arranged in alphabetical order by name of interviewee.
