Biographical / Historical

Chicago's West Side has been served by a number of neighborhood newspapers over the years. The papers follow community events, businesses and people more closely than citywide papers. The West Side community areas served by the newspapers in this collection include Austin, Brighton Park, East Garfield Park, Humboldt Park, Lower West Side, Near West Side, North Lawndale, South Lawndale, West Garfield Park and West Town.

Scope and Contents

The West Side Newspaper Collection consists of partial runs of several West Side newspapers including, Garfield News, Garfieldian and the West Town News, among others.

Arrangement

The collection is arranged alphabetically by newspaper and then chronologically within.

This collection was surveyed as part of the Black Metropolis Research Consortium's Survey Initiative on 2010 July 22 by Lisa Calahan.
