The Family Focus Evanston Records primarily consist of annual reports, publications, financial reports, historic survey data and funding proposals. The materials span from the organization’s founding in 1976 to 2010. Of particular importance are the papers of the organization’s director Delores Holmes, most notably her 1984 master’s thesis and papers detailing strategies for reducing teen pregnancy. Pamphlets, news clippings and newsletters provide a sense of the day-to-day operation and growth of the center. Researchers interested in the development and growth of community organizations serving the African-American community may find this collection useful. Though the collection is focused on Family Focus Evanston, it also contains materials related to the founding of the parent organization. The Family Focus Center stands as an important chapter in the historical narrative of African-Americans in Evanston because of its role in creating programs for early childhood intervention and education, and its commitment to strengthening the black family and community in Evanston.
