The Social and Civic Clubs and Organizations collection is organized alphabetically by organization title. The collection is comprised of files, compiled by Shorefront Legacy Center, documenting the history, events, and members of North Shore social and civic clubs and organizations. It contains publications, meeting minutes, flyers, membership rosters, newspaper clippings, photographs, and ephemera.

Historical note

The African-American community of Illinois' North Shore has had a large number of social and civic clubs throughout the years. Both formal and informal, these organizations form a network through which residents and members gather for community engagement, political activities, and leisure. A good number of the clubs and organizations represented in the collection are now defunct or have been encompassed by others.

Additional materials, 1 linear foot, dated 1980-2009were surveyed by the BMRC on 2010 February 25 by Lisa Calahan and Bergis Jules, under the collection title "Clubs, Organizations, Festivals and Other Activities Collection." According to Dino Robinson as of 2020 the social club materials have been gathered into one intentional collection. Organization names were not specified in the Survey Initiative; the collection description needs to be updated.
