Scope and Content

Interviews with present and former officials and members of the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters (BSCP) or of its International Ladies Auxiliary, conducted by Greg Leroy as the labor union came to a close (dissolved 1978). The BSCP had been the largest predominantly African American union in the United States. Most interviews took place in the Chicago area or aboard trains. Leroy, who worked for Amtrak for a time, also traveled to other cities for some interviews.

McLaurin, Horace Mealing, Carl J. Morris, Leroy Parchman, A. Philip Randolph (1977), Joseph Rauch, L.J. Shackelford, Clifford Stafford, Rex Stuart, Mike Tamaka, Rosina Tucker, Linda Wagner, Mr. Waterford, Elizabeth Webster, and Milton P. Webster.

Interviews 1976-1979 were made on a single-track cassette recorder; interviews 1980-1983 were made with a two-track stereo cassette recorder. The A. Philip Randolph interview contains static or radio interference.
